Town SquareThe Town of Edgefield has a long, proud past and we are preparing for an even better future.

There are a number of projects underway or recently completed that will improve the quality of life for our citizens and visitors. Symbols of history are everywhere in the square. A list of 10 South Carolina governors from Edgefield is printed in billboard fashion on the side of a building at the square’s entrance. A life size bronze statue of native son Senator Strom Thurmond stands on the square facing the courthouse.

We are working hard to have the best quality of life for our citizens. Recently, we completed a CDBG Grant on Macedonia Street. The grant re-habilitated approximately seven homes and cleared several lots. The finished product has made a great impact on our Macedonia Street area. Also, a grant to replace the town sewer transmission lines is underway. This Community Infrastructure project is important and we are partnering with ECW&SA, who will provide the local match. Our Edgefield Fire Department was awarded a grant for approximately $26,000 to purchase new hose from a V-Safe Grant and they were awarded a $1,200 Forestry Grant.

Oakley ParkWe are the home of the Region II Heritage Corridor Discovery Center. They are located across from Town Hall. The Discovery Center displays information and history about the four Region II counties and serves as a visitor’s information center about the entire Heritage Corridor. The Discovery Center is open for tours Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and there is no admission fee. They also have a wonderful gift shop that is just full of palmetto trees, South Carolina souvenirs and golf shirts, and they provide a bridal registry for our local residents.
